Book Review: Me Before You (Spoiler Alert!)

(c) google

If you are not yet done reading Me Before You or you’re just about to read it, close this tab now because I don’t wanna spoil anything for you.

I’m not entirely sure if this is going to be a decent review or if it’s just going to be me, expressing my frustration out of the brokenness that this book has brought me. I loved this book, that’s for sure. I loved how it was written. I loved how it widened my imagination. I loved how the characters were well described. It felt like I have known them for a long time. The way it was written made it easier for me to connect to each character.

It’s been over 12 hours now since I finished the book and I’m still emotional. I read the last 95 pages whilst listening to “Ulay Oh” by Adonis and it was the biggest mistake I’ve done this year so far because it added another layer of sadness to the story.

Trying her best to forget him.
Trying her best just to keep her stride.
Ulay, Ulay, Oh.
Ulay, Ulay, Oh.
There they were like the picture.
There they were, they were just the same.
There they were, but he walked away and her eyes could only say
Ulay, Ulay, Oh.

These lyrics will haunt me forever. Anways, I don’t wanna focus on the song. Going back to the book…

I can’t believe how love wasn’t enough for Will to have the will to live(pun unintended lol). At first, I was really mad at Will. How could he do that to Louisa? How could he hurt someone he claims to love? How could he say he wanted her to be happy if he’s clearly giving her an immense reason not to be? How could he even request for Louisa to be there and witness him take his own life? How could he!?!?!?!?!?

But then after a few hours of contemplating, I realized I am not in the position to judge him. If I were in the same situation, not being able to live like how I used to, not being able to do what I wanted to do, knowing I could be such a burden to the person I love, I’d be as devastated as him. If not, more.

I was just wondering why Will never said “I love you” to Louisa? Or did he? I mean, he sure did, in several different ways but I wanted him to tell her the actual words.

Until the very end, I had high hopes that Louisa would be able to change Will’s mind. I was literally crying like a baby as soon as I reached the last 50 pages of the book.. I was reading it but my mind wasn’t functioning properly anymore. All I know is that he’s gone. That Louisa’s love and effort, wasn’t enough for him to actually want to continue his life.

Summer Goals with my Best Friends (Day 2)

We have no actual plans for our second day. We were just roaming around the beach side, fresh from the shower, taking selfies, saddened by the thought that we’re heading home in a few hours, when a few bangkeros approached us and asked if we would like to go on an island hopping. We sat still in a few minutes, thinking and calculating our money then I said, “Tara go. Lubusin na natin ‘to.”

So we did.

It took us 30 minutes to reach “Lamesang Bato”. The sand was whiter here compare to Laiya. The reason why it’s called Lamesang Bato is because of the huge stone shaped like a plate. See the photo below.

It was more peaceful here because we had the island alone to ourselves. No noise. Just the chirping of the birds. There were only trees and waves and clouds and no troubles. We stayed here for a good 30 minutes, I guess, because we were running out of time. Our check-out was 12nn and as far as I could remember, we decided to go island hopping a few minutes before 10am.

The island hopping cost us 1800PHP + 100pesos(they said it was for the entrance fee to the island but I’m not entirely sure if it really was hehe) They offered us a FREE quick snorkeling. They said it usually costs 2500 for island hopping with snorkeling. My friends must have charmed them. Lol.

I didn’t snorkel though because I had my contact lenses on and I didn’t bring my case and solution with me because this wasn’t a part of the plan. But I was happy just  peacefully sitting there in the middle of the sea, breathing the freshest air I have ever breathed, watching the busy shore of Laiya from afar, seeing my best friends’ scared but happy faces as they dip themselves in the water.

It was such a fun activity! Yes, it was kind of expensive but I think if you’re big group unlike ours, it would be fine. It was worth it anyways! Batangeños are super kind too! That’s what I loved about this trip!

Breakdown of expenses for the whole trip:
Fare(per person)
Bus – 190php (one way)
Tricycle – 117php (350pesos for a group of 3) – one way
Accommodation – 4250php (for a room good for 4. it was peak season that’s why the price is sky high but believe they’re the cheapest already if you’re gonna go here during summer. Also, they don’t charge corkage!)
Banana Boat – 1500php (group of 6)
Flying Fish – 2000php for (group of 6)
Island Hopping – 1900php
Food – 1500php would be good for an overnight stay for a group of 3

I think we spent roughly 5000php each but then like I said, it could go cheaper if you are a bigger group. And if you happen to be a small group like ours, try joining other group to lessen your expenses.

I know I promised you guys a budget-friendly travels but this was my first ever major travel so we didn’t really know how to budget yet. But please do stay tune on my next travel blogs because most of those cost me just around 2000php to 3000php max only! 🙂

My Favorite Bible Verse

“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” – Romans 8:18 (NIV)

Hi, you. I believe it’s not an accident that you’re reading this right now. I believe God brought you here. I want to tell you that whatever you’re going through right now, you will be able to overcome it. I once thought that ending my life would be the perfect escape but God revealed to me that He is great and He is in control of my life in ways I didn’t imagine.

Sometimes, we have to go through difficult times(I know because I experienced it myself) for us to learn how to walk in faith. He’s not intentionally hurting you. He lets you go through it because He wants you to realize something. He wants You to seek Him with all your heart. He has forgiven you and He will never get tired of waiting for you. You will win that battle because God will fight with you and for you.

I know you’re hurting. I know sometimes it’s disappointing when you feel like He doesn’t love you but He does. He knows you because He created you. He sees you. He hears your prayers. He thinks about you everyday. He knows you by name. He knows what you’re going through right now and He knows exactly how to get you out of it. You just have to let go and let God. God has a plan for your life and His plans are so much better. You just have to let Him take control of your life. You just have to let Him in into your heart. You will soar high if you will allow Him to carry you.

I’m encouraging you to listen to Laura Story’s “Blessings”. Have a blessed Monday and may you feel God’s love for the rest of the week and for the rest of your life. 🙂

“What if your blessings come through rain drops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You’re near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise.” – Blessings by Laura Story

How To Live A Happy Life?

(c) Rachelle Annewor

I was on leave for work last Friday because my friend and I planned an overnight trip to Candelaria, Zambales but before storming away from the office, I heard a bad news. I was crying about it inside the cab as we head to the bus terminal. During our 8 hours of travel, it was all I was thinking about. (I will be blogging about that trip really soon.)

We went to the beach at around 5PM to take silhouette photos. After taking tons of photos, we sat quietly and watched the sun set and that was when I realized that I am and have always been the culprit behind my troubles because I react to problems in a destructive way.

I realized that in order for us to live a happy life, we have to stop worrying too much. Let God handle what we can’t. We have to stop overthinking things because it creates a whole new problem that wasn’t even existing in the first place. We need to have faith and we have to trust that God is working on our lives and He’s not gonna give us something we can’t overcome because He’s fighting our battles with and for us.

Have a blessed Sunday! You are loved and everything will be okay.

Summer Goals with my Best Friends (Day 1)

Let me help you plan out your summer goals with your best friends since summer is fast approaching! Yey!

My best friends and I went to Laiya, Batangas last April of 2015. We had an overnight stay at Les Caraibes Beach Resort in Brgy. Hugom.

How to commute to Laiya, Batangas from Metro Manila?

Easiest way is via San Juan, Batangas. Go to ALPS Bus Terminal Station in Nepa-Q Mart and you’ll find a bus going there directly and once you reach the ALPS Bus Terminal station in San Juan, there are tricycle drivers awaiting to bring you to Laiya, Batangas.
*Bus Fare – 190PHP
*Tricycle Fare – 350PHP(but you can haggle and ask them if 300PHP is okay)

Off we go!!!!!!!!!!!

Our bus left at 8:30AM and we arrived at the resort at around 1:30PM. 5 hours travel time in total.

Why hello beach!

The resort.

Here’s the view from our room. Sorry, I wasn’t able to take decent photos of the room. But let me tell you something about the room. We picked their air-conditioned cluster room. It has a queen-sized bed and 3 double-decks. Beds are made of bamboo. So basically, the room is good for 7-8 people. It was clean and it was decent but it could be better. It came with a hot/cold shower. Free use of towels. Flat screen 19″ TV. But I didn’t trust the cabinet so we didn’t put anything in there. Hahaha! The toilet is okay. I would rate the room 6/10 just because it could have been better considering the price. We got the room for 4250PHP. Kinda pricey but according to MY research back then, they had the cheapest rate since it was peak season. They are cheap though during off-season because I went back here with my family last December 31, 2015(I’ll be creating a separate post about that anytime soon).

Pork Binagoongan

My favorite thing about them is the FOOOOOOOOOOOD. I would love to meet their cook because their FOOD IS THE BOMB. It’s so yummy! They have a wide range selection of food too. We ordered pork binagoongan. I think we paid 235PHP for this but it was already good for 2-3 people. I suggest you bring your own water because their bottled water is kinda pricey. 20php for a small bottle. The staff are really nice and accommodating too! That’s what I love about Les Caraibes Resort! 🙂

AAAAAAANDDD THE FUN PART BEGINS….

First thing we did after eating and taking a wee bit of rest is go to the beach activities area and do FLYING FISH! I don’t have photos of us doing it but I will show you a picture below of what it is so you have an idea.

IMG_3872.JPG
Just took it off Google. Credits to whoever owns this.

Basically you will ride this boat shaped like a kite. It has a rubber handle to hold on to. It is connected to a jet ski for it to run and fly! Hahaha I suck at explaining how it works. It was fun but it was super duper scaaaaaaaaryyyyyyyyyyy. All I was thinking was I can’t fall. I can’t. I can’t because I have my contact lenses on and I just caaaaaaan’t. Hahaha! You’re probably thinking why I have my contacts on.. Well, apparently, I am blind. I can’t wear my glasses either because it would definitely fall off and if I don’t wear any of those, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy because I won’t see the scenery. But why am I explaining anyways? Lol. So going back. It was fun. It lasted for 15 minutes. It was one of the best experiences I ever had. Even more so special because I did it with my best friends. We won’t stop shouting out of fear and happiness both at the same time. Haha. It was a good kind of scary though. I’m glad I did it ’cause I almost didn’t. Thanks to my friends for pretending they’re mad because I was trying to back out off it. Hahaha! It is good for 6 people though and it’s for 2,500PHP. YES, HELLA PRICEY BUT WORTH IT!(Basta dapat hindi ka madali ma-fall! #hugot)

Banana boat with two good strangers!

After the terrifying FLYING FISH, we went down to something less terrifying. Hahaha. The banana boat! Obviously, it is shaped like a banana. It is almost the same thing with the flying fish only this doesn’t go upwards. I enjoyed this one a lot. Kinda scary but tolerable. This is good for 6 people too and it’s for 1,500PHP only. I think it lasted for 15 minutes too. My hands and my knees were shaking like crazy as we walk back to our resort! OMG.

IMG_3787.JPG

We went ahead and enjoyed the beach for a couple of minutes and cooked our food for dinner. The resort lend us a griller.

Bonfire + Marshmallows!

Played In-Between before sleeping!

This trip made our friendship stronger! It is something we always look back to every time we see each other. Just being with them makes me forget about all my worries in life.

We island hopped as well the next day but I will be doing a separate blog post for that! I will be including the break down of expenses there too so please stay tuned! 🙂

Off my bucket list are:
✓Travel with my best friends!
✓Do something that scares the hell outta you! (flying fish + banana boat)
✓Roast marshmallows in a bonfire!

What about you? When was the last time you did something for the first time whether you’re alone or with your friends? Share it with me on the comment section below. 🙂 I would love to read it!

Get To Know Me

2015-07-03 06.39.32 2.jpg

WHO AM I?
Hi! My name is Nicole. I am from Manila, Philippines. I’m 20 years old but I will be turning 21 this coming May so 3 months from now, I’ll be updating this section. Hahaha! I am currently working my ass off as an Enterprise Analyst. I am not new to blogging. I have been blogging since I was in High School and I was using Tumblr as my platform back then but it was more of a personal blog since I used it like a diary. I love travelling, books, music, food and spending time with my family, dogs and friends.

WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT TO SEE?
MY TRAVELS
Mostly domestic since I don’t have a passport(because I am too lazy to bother getting one). Plus, these are going to be really affordable travels and student-friendly(most of them) because I am probably the cheapest person you’ll ever come across with! I promise to share with you guys the budget and breakdown of expenses, reviews on the accommodation, how to go here and there(because I will be commuting most of the time!).

EVERYTHING I KNOW ABOUT MAKEUP
– I have started watching Youtube makeup videos since I was in Highschool too. I didn’t take makeup classes but I could pretty much say I know quite a lot of things about it considering the number of years that I’ve been experimenting and exploring the makeup world.

THOUGHTS ABOUT ANYTHING UNDER THE SUN
–
These are going to be the things that would just randomly come into my mind. Probably, experiences and lessons that I learn and whatnot.

REVIEWS
– Reviews on makeup, food and etc!

MY LIFE
I’ll be taking you guys with me on whatever errands I do whether I do it alone, with my family and/or with my friends!

AND PROBABLY SOME SELFIES OF ME AND MY DOGS(Hachi and Ratrat)!

I am open for opinions/suggestions and constructive criticism but please know the difference between that and bashing. I do believe in the saying(wow beauty queen lang!? lol), “Be nice for everyone you meet is fighting their own battles you know nothing about.”. 🙂
